Project Overview
The Camera Store TV partnered with Cavalry FC and photojournalist Todd Korol on this sports photography feature. The episode was shot on September 29th, and featured the Cavalry FC's home match against Valour FC.
Purpose of the Video
To showcase the workflow of a professional sports photographer.
Todd Korol is an award winning Canadian freelance editorial photographer based in Calgary who has worked for various media outlets, including the Toronto Star. He has captured several major sporting events, from the Calgary Stampede to the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.
Working with Cavalry FC
The Camera Store partnered with Cavalry FC to host a sports photography workshop on site at ATCO Field, and pitch side access for September 29 home match.
Capturing Footage in the Rain
We knew there was a high chance of rain happening during the match, so we ensured we were prepared accordingly with rain gear, rain covers, weather sealed cameras and lenses. Anything we could use to ensure that the equipment would be fine when we were shooting the episode and the game in the rain.
Capturing the Drone Footage
Due to high chance of rain, as well as regulations preventing us from flying drones during the match, we showed up early to ATCO Field in order to capture the drone footage.
Project Takeaways
This shoot was a prime example of how application of the rule of 5 Ps principle ("Prior planning prevents poor performance") can ensure success, even under adverse conditions.
